Food for Thought! Honey food that is.

It is time to start eating the local wildflower honey to make sure the spring and summer pollen allergies are alleviated. Remember, keep it raw and eat at least 1 tablespoon per day, everyday. We have plenty in stock.

Found Gold!!

While checking out my blackberry honey supply, I discovered underneath 3 cases of aged (like it was just harvested), raw Sourwood Honey from the Blue ridge Mountains of North Carolina. I am keeping one pint for myself, but letting the other 35 pints go for $18 each. There has not been a Sourwood harvest in three years. Any Sourwood out there is a blend, as I discovered in January at the farmers market in Asheville, NC when I tasted.

This is a very limited supply. First come first serve at the markets this week. I am hoping for a pure harvest this August. To see pictures, take a look at our Facebook page!

 “RAW HONEY, GOD’S FOOD”

”Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign; the virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. He will eat curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right.” Isaiah 7:14, 15.

The more I look into raw honey, the more I get excited, the more I want to learn about the incredible depth of this product which is so sweet to the body and the soul. My goodness, even Jesus Himself, the Creator of the universe, according to the Bible, ate honey. John the Baptist ate two varieties of food. One of them was raw honey.

At the half century interlude of my life, I’m realizing that the Lord and Creator has so much criteria He wants us to discover, if we only ask Him for the help and the Wisdom. So much is right under our noses, right before our eyes. Oh, that we might have eyes to see and noses to smell.

Raw honey has been screaming for recognition from us Americans for ages. We call our spouses Sweetheart and Honey. Winnie the Pooh, who has been in our folklore for decades, and whose only food is honey, has never aged (ha-ha).

Raw honey is mentioned fifty-six times in the King James Version of the Bible.

Raw honey contains an ingredient that causes us to vomit if we eat too much.  This can be beneficial if we just happen to eat something poisonous beforehand.

If you ever wondered if raw honey has nutrition or healing properties, or if it’s out and out good for you, the answer is a resounding yes, yes, yes. “My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste” (Proverbs 24:13).

The Bible says: “Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul and health to the bones”. Did you notice that it says health to the bones, for those worrying about osteoporosis? Raw honey contains the amino acid Proline, which is highly concentrated in honey. It is the primary component in collagen. And collagen is the main structure in the bones. While we’re talking about bones, a family in which our teeth also belong, they are in dire need of raw calcium. Raw honey contains two forms. It’s because we Americans eat too much cooked protein that our bones are found wanting. Our bodies need the raw calcium which, if it has none to draw out of nutrition, will draw from our bones, in order to process the cooked protein out of the body. Thus our bones get thin and weak.

There are 165 ingredients in raw honey. They include various enzymes, minerals, amino acids, and vitamins that aid in digestion. Raw honey has the incredible ability to permeate cell membranes, which enables it to kill bacteria and other germs by pulling all fluids through the cell membranes. In addition, some natural antibiotics in raw honey work as an effective element in cleaning infected open wounds. The general term honey today can mean honey bought in a store which is devoid of any nourishment at all. It is in fact no better than plain white sugar. (YUCK)

Todd Hardie, the previous owner of “Honey Gardens Apiaries”, one of the largest raw honey farms in the country, located in Hinesburg,Vermont, had some interesting things to say about atypical honey season with the bees. “The pure honey is the culmination of an incredible amount of work by our honeybees. As the season unfolds, the bees visit many flowers to collect nectar to make honey; these include dandelion, raspberry, blackberry, alfalfa, white clovers, vetches, basswood, milkweed, goldenrod, and the asters. On the average, they collectively fly 24,000 miles and visit three to nine million flowers to make one pound of honey”.

Are they busy or what? Todd told me that they spend their lives working their way up the ladder doing various jobs, and would you believe they only live six to eight weeks?

Dorothy and I are proud to have discovered “Honey Gardens Apiaries” about 12 years ago, and had the pleasure of meeting Todd, who has already blessed us more than he knows.

I called this little writing, “Raw Honey, God’s Food”. I figure if God eats it, it has just got to be good.

Jesus appeared to His disciples after He had died, “And they gave him a piece of broiled fish, and of an honeycomb” (Luke 24:42, KJV).

Age-old Remedies – Honey – Medicine in the Food Cupboard

This is a great article.

Medicine in the Food Cupboard:

Today, many people are battling to maintain themselves and families
on limited incomes. But there is a simple product in the pantry which is a medicine and cosmetic as well as a food.

Honey is mankind’s oldest food and medicine but has been overpowered by heavy advertising by the drug companies which now take $600 million per year from the New Zealand economy. Honey is a universal medicine and the other bee products of royal jelly, propolis, bee pollen, wax and venom have specific uses that we will not cover here today.

Here are 22 tips from the world of apitherapy (medicine from bees) to cut your doctors’ bill. There are 750 different kinds of honey but any will do for the following uses, although runny honey is the easiest.

Apply freely over burns. It cools, removes pain and aids fast healing
without scarring. Apart from being a salve and antibiotic, bacteria cannot live in honey.

Bed Wetting

A teaspoon of honey before bed, aids water retention and calms fears in children.

Sleeplessness

A dessert spoon of honey in a mug of hot milk aids sleep and works
wonders!

Hyperactivity

Honey is a mild sedative with minerals, vitamins, amino acids etc.
Replace all white sugar with honey. White sugar is highly stimulating with no food qualities!

Nasal Congestion

Place a dessertspoon of honey in a basin of hot water and inhale
fumes after covering your head with a towel over the basin. Very effective.

Wounds or Grazes

Cover wound with honey and a bandage. Excellent healer.

For Fatigue

Dissolve a dessertspoon of honey in warm water or quarter honey
balance of water in a jug and keep in the fridge. Honey is primarily
fructose and glucose and so it is quickly absorbed by the digestive system. (Honey is a unique natural stabilizer – ancient Greek athletes took honey for stamina before competing and as a reviver after competition.)

Facial Deep Cleanser

Mix honey with oatmeal approx. 50/50 till thick and apply as a
face-pack. Leave on for half an hour then wash off. Great as a deep cleanser
for acne etc.

Poor Digestion

Mix honey with apple cider vinegar approx. 50/50 and dilute to taste
with water – aids digestion. (Also reputed to be wonderful for the joints.

Hair Conditioner

Mix honey with equal quantity of Olive Oil and cover head with a warm towel for half and hour then shampoo off. Feeds hair and scalp. Hair will never look or feel better!
Sore Throats

Let a teaspoon of honey melt in the back of the mouth and trickle
down the throat. Eases inflamed raw tissues.

For Stress

Honey in water is a stabilizer – calms highs and raises lows. Use
approx. 25 percent honey to water.

Anaemia

Honey is the best blood enricher by raising corpuscle content. The
darker the honey the more minerals it contains.

Food Preservative

Cakes with honey replacing sugar stay fresher longer due to natural
antibiotics. Reduce liquids by approx. one-fifth to allow for moisture in honey.

Heart patients

These people are well advised to replace white sugar (sucrose) with
honey, natural fructose and glucose.

Hayfever

Chewing the tops of comb honey stimulates the immune system due to minute amounts of pollen. During the season chew for 20 minutes a teaspoon of bee cappings (tops) five to six times per day. Highly effective and useful for asthma suffers as well.

Osteoporosis

English research has shown that a teaspoon of honey per day aids
calcium utilisation and prevents osteoporosis. Essential from age 50
onwards.

Long Life

One common fact worldwide is that the most long-lived people are
regular users of honey. An interesting fact yet to be explained is that beekeepers suffer less from cancer and arthritis than any other occupational group worldwide.

Migraine

Use a dessertspoon of honey dissolved in half a glass of warm water.
Sip at start of attack. If necessary repeat in 20 minutes. Always effective (so tip goes) as migraine is stress related.

Conjunctivitis (pus in the eye)

Honey dissolved in equal quantity of warm water. Apply when cooled as lotion or eye bath.

COUGH MIXTURE
6 ozs liquid honey
2 ozs glycerine
Juice of 2 lemons
Mix well. Bottle and cork firmly. Use as required

Keep honey in first aid cupboard for emergency bums etc and another in the kitchen cupboard.

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord And whose trust is the Lord. For he will be like a tree planted by the water; That extends its roots by a stream. and will not fear when the heat comes; But its leaves will be green, And it will not be anxious in a year of drought nor cease to yield fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7
